Smart Africa

    Soon after establishing the translational lab and other operations of VCR Park in Visakhapatnam, the VCR team began exploring how cancer patients from other Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) could benefit from the network and partnership mechanisms built at VCR Park.

Synergies with the Smart Africa program and the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI):
    With its secretariat established in Kigali, Rwanda, Smart Africa is a visionary consortium of 53 countries, under the leadership of seven founding African countries. Having built a comprehensive state-of-the-art digital grid across the member states, the mission of Smart Africa is to leverage the network for implementing innovative socio-economic solutions across the grid.

    The Uganda Cancer Institute, recently recognized as the best Cancer Care and Research Institute across eastern Africa, focuses on improving awareness, training, reach, and outcomes for cancer patients across the country. The advanced tertiary care center is led by highly trained professionals and is well-positioned to become the anchor for cancer-focused member-led programs.

    The VCR team met with the senior leadership of the state of Uganda (including the current and past prime ministers, health minister) and the UCI (Director and the national health board) to design collaborative national programs under the UCI.
